What Would Happen to Your Business if Your Premises and Servers Were Hit by Fire, Theft, Flood or Other Disaster Scenarios?
Mike Edwards, Swallow Security
Our RecoverIT disaster planning and recovery service will protect your business and allow you to keep working if disaster strikes, even if you can’t work from your premises.
Nobody likes to think about the prospect of a major disaster and anyway, it’s always what happens to someone else isn’t it? The reality is of course, that it could very easily happen to you. Disaster can strike in any number of forms; fire, flood or theft being amongst the more obvious but also includes server loss through virus attacks, malware, disk failure, hacker attacks and even aggrieved staff. And whilst you are most likely running a backup of your important data, how quickly could you get a system back operational with key user access to that data? How long could you afford to be out of action? To give you an idea, here’s a couple of statistics for you:
• “On average, by the 6th day of a major data loss, companies experience a 25% loss in daily revenue. By day 25 it is 40%.”
• “43% of companies that experience a severe data loss disaster, and that have no recovery plan in place, never re-open.”
You should also be aware that you have obligations to protect the data on your network. This is an excerpt from the Data Protection Act, 1998 –
“You must safeguard your own or anyone else´s data, by appropriate precautions against loss, corruption or unauthorised disclosure”
We take the worry away; Astec provide a solution that will take complete ‘snapshots’ of your server or servers. In the event of a disaster situation, we can get you back up and running in the minimum of time. A number of options are available depending on your circumstances and requirements but include the provision of a replacement server. In conjunction with our specialist software, we can very quickly reproduce your server environment onto the new platform and put you back into an operational state.
Alternatively, for situations where your premises have been affected, we can restore your server to a dedicated Disaster Recovery environment within our own offices and provide office space, desks and computers for key staff to work from while providing remote access to the server for other users.
Please also see our Cloud Computing section of the website for details on our fully hosted Disaster Recovery solutions for the ultimate in resilient, failover solutions.
Putting these contingencies into a formal plan, not only provides you with peace of mind but can often have financial benefits too. With many insurance companies very aware of the business impact of such disasters, business insurance premiums are often discounted if such plans are in place.
And of course, if you take our PromisePlus Total Care managed services agreement, we provide you with this service as standard.
