The value of training and the cost
of doing nothing |
|
 |
|
Training your staff
may strike you as a costly and
laborious process. But when faced
with the alternative - a body of
staff with a series of gaps in their
skill set - it becomes apparent the
real costs lie in not training them. |
|
|
 |
| |
|
| |
 |
|
To train or not to
train, that is the question…on the one hand staff gain new
skills, but on the other, it costs the company money. But
perhaps the question should be can you afford to run your
company without an appropriately trained workforce?
People without the necessary skills have been shown to have
increased down time as they run into problems, create more
co-worker distraction through asking for help, need more
time to do a task as they often have to start again or
rework it, create more support calls to the IT help desk and
cause frustration all round.
|
|
Appropriately targeted training should resolve these
issues and be cost effective to boot. To get the
best out of training offered there needs to be an
evaluation of current skills, a review of required
skills and a course designed to fulfil both the
needs of the individual and the company.
|
With tailored training, it’s an ideal time
to include elements of corporate policy and the
impact on customer service as well as aiming to
improve productivity and performance. |

With tailored training,
it’s an ideal time to include elements of corporate policy
and the impact on customer service as well as aiming to
improve productivity and performance. The added bonus is
increased employee morale and retention, meaning that your
investment becomes even better value over a longer period of
time.
So my final question is – when did you last
look at the training needs of your workforce?
